How to compress a JPG
This page is already set to JPG output. JPG is lossy, which means it removes detail the eye barely notices to make the file smaller.
- Quality: the slider runs from 10% to 100% and starts at 80%. 70% to 85% usually looks nearly identical to the original.
- Resize: for big photos, scaling down often saves more than lowering quality.
- Transparency: a JPG cannot be transparent, so transparent areas of a PNG are filled with white.
- Compress the original. Each time a JPG is saved again with lossy compression, a little more detail can be lost, so start from the original photo when you can.

Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about the ConvertKit Lite Image Compressor & Resizer.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Compression runs in your browser, so your images are not uploaded anywhere.
Can I process many images at once?
Yes. Add as many images as you like, then download them one by one or all together as a ZIP.
Why is my result sometimes larger?
Flat graphics and screenshots can compress better in their original format. The result list marks any file that grew so you can keep the original.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, in any modern browser. Big batches of large photos are easier on a computer, because processing uses your device's memory.
What quality should I use to compress a JPG?
Start at 80%. If the file is still too big, try 70%, or resize the image. Compare the Before and After previews before you download.
Can I compress a JPG without it looking blurry?
Keep the quality at 75% or higher and avoid enlarging the image. Blur usually appears at much lower settings.
