How to convert PNG to JPG
Three quick steps. Nothing to install and nothing leaves your device.
Add your PNGs
Drag one or many PNG images onto the box above, or click it to browse. Each file appears with a before preview.
Adjust the settings
Set the JPG quality from 10% to 100% and pick a background colour for any transparent areas. The images convert again automatically when you change a setting.
Download
Compare the PNG and JPG side by side, check the size saved, then download each JPG or all of them as a ZIP.
Choose the colour behind your transparent PNG
Use the Background for transparent areas colour box before you convert. Any colour works, not only white or black.
- Match your page or document: choose the colour of the place where the picture will be used, so it blends in.
- Light logos: a white or light logo disappears on a white fill. Pick a dark colour instead.
- Changes apply at once: when you change the colour, every image converts again after a short pause.
- Solid images are not affected: the colour only shows where the PNG was transparent.

Why convert PNG to JPG?
PNG keeps every pixel, which makes it ideal for graphics but heavy for photographs. A screenshot or camera picture saved as PNG can be several times bigger than the same picture saved as JPG. Converting to JPG makes files easier to email, upload and store, and many forms and sites only accept JPG.
This converter runs on your own device, so your pictures are never uploaded.
How this tool converts your images
- Quality is yours to set. The slider goes from 10% to 100% and starts at 90%. Lower values give smaller files with more visible compression.
- Transparent areas get a background colour. JPG cannot be see-through, so transparent pixels are filled with the colour you pick. White is the default, and you can choose any colour. Partly transparent edges blend into that colour.
- Results update by themselves. Change the quality or colour and every image is converted again after a short pause.
- Same size in pixels. The JPG has the same width and height as the PNG. The dimensions are shown under each preview.
- Compare before you download. Each image shows the PNG on the left, with a checkerboard behind transparent areas, and the JPG on the right.
- Many files at once. Convert a whole batch and download each JPG, or one ZIP named converted-images.zip.
What to expect
- Photos shrink a lot. Flat graphics, logos and screenshots with large solid areas often compress better as PNG. The badge on each result shows the percentage saved, and turns orange with a plus sign if the JPG came out larger.
- JPG is not lossless. Each save loses a little detail. Use a high quality setting for images you will edit again, and keep the PNG as your master copy.
- Sharp text and thin lines can look fuzzy. Compression noise shows up around hard edges, so try 90% or higher for screenshots and drawings.
Tips for better results
- Need smaller still? Resize and compress further with Image Compressor & Resizer, or try JPG to WebP for even smaller web images.
- Going back to PNG? JPG to PNG turns JPGs into PNG files and can make white backgrounds transparent.
- Mixed formats? Image Converter handles JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, SVG and HEIC in one batch.
- Have iPhone or WebP pictures? Use HEIC to JPG or WebP to JPG.
- Want to cut out the background first? Remove Background makes it transparent, and you can then fill it with any colour here.
- Need a document? JPG to PDF puts your pictures into one PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about converting PNG to JPG with ConvertKit Lite.
Is it safe to convert my images here?
Yes. Conversion runs in your browser, so your images are not uploaded to a server.
What happens to transparent areas?
JPG can't store transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with the background color you choose. White is the default.
Which quality setting should I use?
80–90% looks nearly identical to the original for most photos and gives a much smaller file. Go higher for detailed images, lower for the smallest size.
Can I convert many images at once?
Yes. Add as many PNGs as you like, then download them one by one or all together as a ZIP.
Why is my JPG sometimes larger than the PNG?
Flat graphics, logos and screenshots can compress better as PNG. The result list marks any file that grew, so you can keep the original in that case.
Which files can I add?
PNG images only. If you add other types, they are skipped and you are told how many. For other formats, use the Image Converter.
Can I pick any background colour?
Yes. The colour picker accepts any colour, not just white or black. Choose one that matches the page or document where the picture will be used.
Do the images convert again when I change a setting?
Yes. Moving the quality slider or changing the colour re-runs the conversion for every image after a short delay, so you can see the effect straight away.
Does the image size in pixels change?
No. Width and height stay the same. Only the file format and compression change.
What do the percentage badges mean?
A green minus value is the size saved compared with your PNG. An orange plus value means the JPG is larger than the PNG.
What is in the ZIP download?
One JPG for every image you converted, named after the original. If two files share a name, a number is added to the second. The ZIP is called converted-images.zip.
What does Clear do?
It removes all your images and results from the page so you can start again.
Is there a limit on files or size?
There is no limit on our side, and no account or watermark. Very large images and big batches depend on your device's memory, so they may be slow on a phone.
Can I make the background black when converting PNG to JPG?
Yes. Pick black in the background colour box. Every transparent area is filled with it.
Does the background colour change my whole picture?
No. It only fills the transparent areas. Parts of the PNG that are not transparent keep their own colours.
