Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about the ConvertKit Lite Image Converter.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Images are converted in your browser, so your files stay on your device.

Which formats can I convert from and to?

You can add JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, SVG and HEIC images (HEIC needs an internet connection the first time). You can convert to JPG, PNG, WebP or BMP.

What happens to transparent images?

PNG and WebP keep transparency. JPG and BMP cannot store it, so transparent areas are filled with the background color you choose, white or black.

What does the quality setting do?

It applies to JPG and WebP. Higher quality gives sharper images and bigger files. PNG and BMP are lossless, so the setting is turned off for them.

What happens to animated GIFs?

Only the first frame is converted. Animation is not kept in JPG, PNG, WebP or BMP output.

Why is my converted file bigger?

Converting a JPG to PNG or BMP makes files larger because those formats are lossless. For smaller files, choose JPG or WebP with Standard or Small file quality.

Why is WebP not available in my browser?

Some older browsers, including older Safari versions, cannot create WebP files. The tool tells you when this happens. Choose JPG or PNG instead.
