Add your images
Click the upload area or drag one or more images onto it. JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, SVG and HEIC files all work, and you can mix them.
Choose a format
Pick JPG, PNG, WebP or BMP. For JPG and WebP set the quality, and for JPG and BMP choose a white or black background for transparent areas.
Convert and download
Press Convert images, compare the old and new sizes, then download each image or all of them as a ZIP.
How to convert an image to WebP
WebP is made for the web. It usually gives smaller files than JPG and keeps transparency like PNG.
- Add your images.
- Choose WebP under Convert to.
- Pick High (95%), Standard (85%) or Small file (65%).
- Press Convert images and compare the sizes in the result.
- Check the saving: the result shows by what percentage each file got smaller or larger.
- Older browsers: some cannot create WebP, including older Safari versions. The tool tells you, and you can choose JPG or PNG instead.
- Transparency is kept: unlike JPG, WebP can hold it.
- Other tools: JPG to WebP has its own page, and the Image Compressor & Resizer can shrink pictures further.

Why convert image formats?
Not every site, app or printer accepts every image type. A form may ask for JPG only, a design tool may need PNG for transparency, a website may prefer WebP for speed, and an old program may only open BMP. Phones also save photos as HEIC, which many Windows computers cannot open.
This converter handles all of these in one place, on your own device. Your pictures are not uploaded anywhere.
Which format should you choose?
- JPG gives small files for photos. It cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background you pick.
- PNG is lossless and keeps transparency. It suits logos, screenshots and graphics, but photos can become much larger.
- WebP gives small files and keeps transparency. All modern browsers support it.
- BMP is uncompressed 24-bit, so files are large. It is only useful for old software that asks for it.
How this tool converts your images
- Quality has three levels. High (95%), Standard (85%) and Small file (65%). It applies to JPG and WebP only. For PNG and BMP the setting is switched off because they are lossless.
- Transparent areas are handled for you. PNG and WebP keep them. JPG and BMP fill them with white or black, your choice.
- HEIC is supported. iPhone photos are decoded in your browser. The decoder is loaded the first time you add a HEIC file, so you need an internet connection then.
- Animated GIFs become still images. Only the first frame is converted.
- Very large pictures are scaled down. An image over 48 megapixels is reduced to fit, so your browser does not run out of memory.
- You see the result at once. Each file shows its new size and dimensions, and whether the file got smaller or larger.
Tips for better results
- Need smaller files? Choose JPG or WebP with Standard or Small file quality, or use Image Compressor & Resizer to shrink and resize.
- Converting a JPG to PNG does not add quality. The detail lost in the JPG stays lost, and the PNG will be bigger.
- Only converting one kind of file? Dedicated pages are available: HEIC to JPG, WebP to JPG, PNG to JPG, JPG to PNG and JPG to WebP.
- Want to cut out the background? Remove Background makes it transparent, and you can save the result as PNG.
- Need a PDF? JPG to PDF puts your images into one document.
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about the ConvertKit Lite Image Converter.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Images are converted in your browser, so your files stay on your device.
Which formats can I convert from and to?
You can add JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, SVG and HEIC images (HEIC needs an internet connection the first time). You can convert to JPG, PNG, WebP or BMP.
What happens to transparent images?
PNG and WebP keep transparency. JPG and BMP cannot store it, so transparent areas are filled with the background color you choose, white or black.
What does the quality setting do?
It applies to JPG and WebP. Higher quality gives sharper images and bigger files. PNG and BMP are lossless, so the setting is turned off for them.
What happens to animated GIFs?
Only the first frame is converted. Animation is not kept in JPG, PNG, WebP or BMP output.
Why is my converted file bigger?
Converting a JPG to PNG or BMP makes files larger because those formats are lossless. For smaller files, choose JPG or WebP with Standard or Small file quality.
Why is WebP not available in my browser?
Some older browsers, including older Safari versions, cannot create WebP files. The tool tells you when this happens. Choose JPG or PNG instead.
Can I convert several files to different formats at once?
All files in one batch are converted to the same format, the one you pick under Convert to. To get another format, run a second batch.
Are image sizes changed?
No. Width and height stay the same, unless a picture is larger than 48 megapixels, in which case it is scaled down to fit. SVG images are drawn at their own size, or at 1024 × 1024 pixels if they have none.
Is EXIF or location data kept?
The image is redrawn and saved fresh, so camera details and location data are not copied into the new file. This is a side effect of how browsers convert images, not a setting.
Why can't I change the quality for PNG or BMP?
Those formats store every pixel without loss, so there is nothing to adjust. The quality menu and the background menu switch off when they do not apply.
Can I convert HEIC photos from my iPhone?
Yes. Add the .heic or .heif files and choose a format, usually JPG. The first HEIC file needs an internet connection to load the decoder.
What is in the ZIP download?
One converted file for each image, named after the original with the new extension. If two files share a name, a number is added to the second. The ZIP is called converted-images.zip.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, in a modern browser. Large batches of big photos are easier on a computer because the conversion uses your device's memory.
Are there limits on how many images I can convert?
No account, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it. Very large batches depend on your device's memory.
How do I convert an image to WebP?
Add the image, choose WebP under Convert to, pick a quality and press Convert images. Then download the WebP file.
Does WebP keep a transparent background?
Yes. WebP keeps transparency, so a PNG with a transparent background stays transparent after conversion.
