How to convert JPG to WebP
Three quick steps. Nothing to install and nothing leaves your device.
Add your images
Click the upload area or drag JPG or PNG files onto it. You can select several at once, and each one is listed with its size.
Set quality and size
Move the quality slider (10 to 100) and optionally limit the width to 3840, 1920, 1280 or 800 pixels. Around 75 to 85 is a good starting point.
Convert and download
Press Convert to WebP, check how much smaller each file is, then download them one by one or all together as a ZIP.
Convert many images to WebP together
Select many JPG or PNG files at once, or drop them on the box. They are all converted with the same quality and max width.
- The list: every image shows its size before and after, and a total is shown when the batch finishes.
- Remove one: press Remove on a row to take that image out of the list.
- Download: each file on its own, or press Download all (ZIP) to get webp-images.zip.
- Same names: if two files share a name, a number is added to the second one in the ZIP.
- Change a setting: adjust the quality or width and press Convert again to redo the whole list.
- Big batches: the tool sets no limit, but your device memory does. Convert large batches in smaller groups.

Why convert JPG to WebP?
WebP is an image format made for the web. It usually gives a smaller file than JPG at similar quality, so pages load faster and use less data. That helps websites, online shops, blogs and apps that show a lot of pictures.
This tool converts your images inside your browser. Your files are not uploaded to a server, so private photos stay on your device.
How this tool converts your images
- Quality is a slider from 10 to 100. The default is 80. A lower number gives a smaller file with more visible loss, and a higher number keeps more detail.
- Max width is optional. Choose Original size, 3840 px (4K), 1920 px (Full HD), 1280 px or 800 px. The height follows the image's proportions.
- Images are never enlarged. A picture narrower than the max width keeps its own size.
- You see the real result. Each file shows its original size, its new size and how much smaller (or larger) it is, and a total is shown for the batch.
- Download one by one or as a ZIP. With more than one image, a Download all (ZIP) button saves everything in a single file called webp-images.zip.
- Names stay the same. photo.jpg becomes photo.webp. If two files share a name, the second gets a number added in the ZIP.
Limits to know
- Only JPG and PNG are accepted. Other files are skipped, and a message says how many.
- Some files can get bigger. An already heavily compressed JPG can grow when converted at a high quality. If that happens, lower the quality or the width.
- Transparency in PNG is kept. See-through areas stay see-through in the WebP file.
- Your browser must be able to create WebP. If it cannot, you will see a message to try the latest Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
- Very large images may be slow. Everything runs on your device, so huge pictures or long lists depend on its memory.
- Some older programs cannot open WebP. Keep your originals, and use WebP to JPG if you need to go back.
Tips for better results
- Start at 75 to 85. That keeps photos looking sharp with a much smaller file. Go lower only when size matters more than detail.
- Limit the width for websites. A picture shown 800 px wide does not need a 4000 px original, so 1280 or 1920 px often saves a lot.
- Try a few settings. Change the slider and press Convert again to compare the file sizes.
- Want to shrink a JPG without changing format? Use Image Compressor & Resizer.
- Other conversions. JPG to PNG, PNG to JPG and Image Converter cover the common formats.
- Need a PDF from your pictures? JPG to PDF puts them into one file.
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about the ConvertKit Lite JPG to WebP tool.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, so your images stay on your device.
Is WebP smaller than JPG?
Usually, yes, often by a quarter or more at similar quality. The result depends on the image, and the size shown next to each file is the real one.
Does WebP work everywhere?
All current major browsers display WebP. Some older software and apps may not open it, so keep your originals.
Does it keep transparency in PNG files?
Yes. Transparent PNG areas stay transparent in the WebP file.
Why is a WebP file sometimes bigger?
An already heavily compressed JPG can grow when converted at high quality. Lower the quality slider or limit the width.
What does the quality slider do?
It sets how much detail is kept. Values run from 10 to 100 and the default is 80. Around 75 to 85 usually looks sharp with a much smaller file.
What does Max width do?
It scales down any image wider than the width you choose, keeping its proportions. Choose Original size to keep the width as it is.
Will small images be enlarged?
No. Only images wider than the limit are reduced. Smaller images keep their own size.
Can I convert several images at once?
Yes. Select as many as you like. Each one is converted with the same settings, and you can download them separately or as one ZIP file.
How do I know how much space I saved?
Each file shows its original size, the new size and the percentage change. When the batch finishes, a total is shown too.
Can I use WebP files as the input?
No. This tool accepts JPG and PNG. To go the other way, use WebP to JPG.
What is the ZIP file called?
It is called webp-images.zip. Each image keeps its name with a .webp ending, and duplicate names get a number added.
Can I change the settings and convert again?
Yes. Adjust the quality or the width and press Convert again. The files are converted again with the new settings.
Which WebP quality should I use for a website?
A quality of about 75 to 85 is a good default for photos. Combine it with a width limit that matches how large the image is shown on your page.
What if I see a message that my browser cannot create WebP files?
Try the latest version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. The converter needs your browser to be able to save WebP images.
How do I convert many JPG files to WebP at once?
Select or drop several images, set the quality and width, press Convert to WebP, then download each file or all of them as a ZIP.
Can I remove one image from the list before converting?
Yes. Press Remove on that image row. The other images stay in the list.
