Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about the ConvertKit Lite XLSX to CSV tool.

Are my spreadsheets uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs in your browser, so your files stay on your device.

What happens to workbooks with several sheets?

CSV can only hold one table, so by default each sheet becomes its own CSV file named after the sheet. Choose "First sheet only" if you just need the first one.

What is kept and what is lost?

Cell values are kept. Formulas become their calculated results. Fonts, colors, merged cell styling, charts, images and macros are not part of CSV.

Why do dates and numbers look different?

By default values are written as they appear in Excel, such as formatted dates or currency. Choose "Numbers as stored" to get the raw, unformatted numbers instead.

Which delimiter and encoding should I choose?

Comma with UTF-8 works almost everywhere. Use a semicolon if your region's Excel expects it, and UTF-8 with BOM if accented or non-Latin characters look broken when opening the file in Excel.

Can I convert password-protected files?

No. Remove the password in Excel first, then save the file and convert it here.

Can I convert many files at once?

Yes. Add several spreadsheets, convert them together, and download each CSV file or one ZIP.
